Tucked along the Caribbean coast of Bocas del Toro, the newly declared San San Pond Sak National Park is far more than a landscape—it’s a living network of freshwater, forest, and sea. Long protected by its community stewards and now formally part of Panama’s National Park system, this wetland sanctuary welcomes you into one of Central America’s most vibrant ecological corridors.

Your journey begins at AAMVECONA’s base camp, where you’ll board a small boat and glide past canals and forest edges. Keep your eyes open—this stretch is often filled with sightings of sloths, iguanas sunning themselves on branches, and jacanas tiptoeing across lily pads.

From the field station, you’ll transfer to a traditional canoe and follow local guides through winding mangrove channels, all in the company of your Isthmian Adventures naturalist guide. Together, they’ll help you read the subtle signs of life—ripple patterns, calls from the canopy, bubbles near the surface—as you quietly search for the elusive West Indian manatee in one of its last strongholds on the Caribbean coast.

If your visit falls between March and September, you may also have the rare chance to join a nighttime sea turtle conservation patrol, witnessing nesting leatherbacks and hawksbills as they return to the beach in the moonlight.
