Upon arrival in Río Caña, settle into your charming accommodations for the next two nights and enjoy a leisurely introduction to the community guided by a local expert.
Lunch will be a delightful immersion into Ngäbe cuisine, offering a taste of the authentic flavors of the region. In the afternoon, we’ll explore the Damani-Guariviara Wetland Ramsar Site, a vast 24,000-hectare sanctuary vital to the West Indian manatee. Experience this pristine wetland aboard a traditional dugout canoe, guided by the local custodians of this remarkable ecosystem.
As evening falls, savor a dinner and participate in a captivating traditional cacao ceremony. The Ngäbe people, with their deep connection to cacao, will welcome you around a fire, sharing the spiritual and historical significance of this revered plant. Enjoy hot cacao as you receive a special Ngäbe name, a unique and heartfelt introduction to their vibrant culture.

Night: Río Caña
After breakfast, set off on a brief boat journey to the isolated and pristine Escudo de Veraguas Island. Accessible only during select months due to the challenging waters, this remote archipelago remains a sanctuary of natural wonder. The isolation of the islands has given rise to unique endemic species, making this a truly magical place for the Ngäbe people.
Spend the day immersed in the island’s beauty—snorkel in the vibrant coral reefs, explore the inner channels by boat, and traverse trails in search of the elusive Pygmy sloth and the striking Escudo hummingbird. Relax on the white sand beaches while enjoying a traditional Ngöbe picnic lunch prepared by the Meri Eko Kika women. We return to Río Caña in the early afternoon, giving you time to relax before evening activities.
Experience the rhythmic beauty of traditional Ngäbe dances, a vivid reflection of their daily life and reverence for nature. Engage with local artisans as they showcase their craft, each piece echoing their deep cultural heritage.
Conclude your day with a visit to the Turtle Conservation Project at Playa Chiriquí, where the Sea Turtle Conservancy’s efforts to protect these majestic creatures come to life.

On your final morning in Río Caña, take time to bid farewell to the community or enjoy a leisurely exploration of the local area. At 10:00 am, we will depart from the local pier and journey back to Calovebora and Santa Fe de Veraguas, carrying with you memories of a remarkable adventure and a deepened connection to Panama’s natural and cultural treasures.

Cancellations made with more than 30 days notice from the first day of the tour are subject to a full refund of the deposit. Cancellations made between 30 and 15 days prior to the first day of the tour are subject to a 50% refund of the total cost of the tour.
