Your Panama Birding Adventure begins the moment you land at Tocumen International Airport. Greeted by your expert birding guide, you’ll be whisked away to a comfortable hotel in Panama City. As you settle in, your guide will introduce you to the adventures ahead, sharing insights into departure times, must-bring items, and what to expect from this once-in-a-lifetime journey.

Panama City, a vibrant urban oasis, offers a surprising diversity of birdlife. The bay’s mudflats serve as a rest stop for millions of migratory birds, providing the perfect start to your adventure. At low tide, you’ll witness Collared Plovers, Short-billed Dowitchers, Marbled Godwits, and more. In the mangroves of Costa del Este, the Straight-billed Woodcreeper, Ruddy-breasted Seedeater, and Northern Scrub-Flycatcher await discovery. The day culminates at Metro Park, a lush oasis within the city and one of the best places to see urban wildlife. Some of our targets for this site include Lance-tailed Manakin, Yellow-green Tyrannulet, Orange-chinned Parakeet and the Rosy Thrush-Tanager.

Today, rise early for a day of exploration on the famed Pipeline Road, one of Central America’s premier birding destinations. Once constructed during World War II, this road now offers a thriving habitat for birdwatchers. With luck, you’ll spot the elusive Rufous-vented Ground-Cuckoo and a variety of trogons. A picnic lunch at the Panama Rainforest Discovery Center, surrounded by 14 species of hummingbirds, sets the stage for afternoon birding at Lake Caimito, where waterfowl abound.

This morning, you’ll fly back to Panama City to continue your birding adventure. Upon arrival, we’ll head straight to the renowned Plantation Trail, one of Panama’s premier birding hotspots nestled within mature rainforest along the tranquil Rio Chico Masambi. This easy trail offers a rich opportunity to spot a diverse array of rainforest species such as the Golden-crowned Spadebill, Ocellated Antbird, White-bellied Antbird, and the Broad-billed Motmot. Keep your eyes peeled for the elusive White-whiskered Puffbird, often found perching quietly in forest clearings.
After our lunch, we’ll return to your hotel for check-in and some relaxation. In the late afternoon, we’ll make our way to the picturesque Amador Causeway. Here, we’ll explore the grounds of the Amador area and the lush gardens of the Biomuseo in search of species like the Saffron Finch, Cattle Tyrant, and Southern Lapwing, all while enjoying stunning views of the Panama City skyline.
As the day winds down, we’ll gather for a heartfelt farewell dinner along the coastway of Amador, reminiscing about the incredible experiences and sightings we’ve shared throughout this journey.
